Our Story
A unique aspect about us is our family history. Michael is the first generation born here on his fathers side. The Correia name immigrated from the Acores Islands of Portugal in 1970. Michael did not grow up in the cattle industry, yet from a young boy was exposed through his uncles dairy and immediately knew he had a passion for cattle and the pastoral way of life. Fast forward to raising cattle in FFA, a small commercial herd during high school, an impeccable Ag teacher that pushed him to expand his horizons and a desire to improve, and here we are. Lauryn's first memory was raising a Charolais bottle calf from her grandfathers commercial herd to exhibit and sell at the county fair. After that she was hooked and exhibited Charolais cattle all over the US, including multiple state fairs, junior Nationals and the National Western Stock Show. Lauryn was heavily involved in the Charolais industry as a member of the AICA Youth Board for multiple years helping to guide the youth of that organization.
Lauryn and I were born about 30 days and 215 miles apart in California, yet never met prior to college at Kansas State in 2013! Three weeks into college we met and we were married on the ranch in 2018. In 2023 we welcomed our daughter Clarke and in 2025 we added Kincaid! As first generation seedstock producers we can't wait for our kids to live and enjoy this for all the years to come.
When we finished college we both knew we wanted to build a cowherd. Lauryn had a small herd of registered Charolais cows left over from high school and Michael decided to get a small loan from the FSA and invest in 6 head of commercial cows. In 2017 the first registered Angus cows were bought from Tom Wulff at VanDyke Angus, Tom was Michaels livestock judging coach in high school and has been a great mentor in our Angus journey. We would also like to thank Joe Fischer at Bruin Ranch for his guidance as well. What started as a herd of 10 cows with "unique" qualities and a breeding plan has transformed into a seedstock business we are very proud of.
The ranch is tucked within the rocky foothills of eastern Tulare County, which lies in the southern half of California. What we lack in rainfall we think we make up for in landscape features and the views of the Sierra Nevada's in the springtime. Our herd doesn't travel to match the seasonal and elevation based feed resources we have out here, instead they are developed to thrive on a 90-120 day grass season and maintain the remainder of the year on dry foothill forage. This not only creates a hardy and efficient cow, but when coupled with our strict criteria, an honest and productive one as well. We strive for constant improvement in all that we do and look forward to years of refining and improving Angus genetics.
